On the night of August 28, 2025, Ukraine’s Defense Forces carried out a large-scale attack on key facilities of Russia’s military and economic potential. The Afipsky and Kuibyshev oil refineries, as well as ammunition depots and the aggressor’s logistics centers, were struck. This was reported by the General Staff’s press service.

Afipsky Oil Refinery
Units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Unmanned Systems Forces and the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense attacked the Afipsky refinery located in Russia’s Krasnodar region.
“Its main products are gasoline and diesel fuel, used to supply the occupiers’ army. The annual processing capacity is 6.25 million tons of oil. A large-scale fire has been reported at the facility,” the statement said.
The Afipsky refinery is located in the settlement of Afipsky, near the city of Krasnodar, about 300 km from the Ukrainian border. It is one of the key refineries in southern Russia, with production capacity exceeding 6 million tons of oil annually. Its main products are motor gasoline, diesel fuel, and fuel for military equipment.
The plant plays an important role in sustaining the logistics of occupation forces in the southern direction, particularly in Crimea and the occupied territories of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions.
Kuibyshev Oil Refinery
“Units of the Unmanned Systems Forces and Special Operations Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces carried out a strike on the Kuibyshev oil refinery in Russia’s Samara region,” the General Staff reported.
The facility produces gasoline, diesel fuel, fuel oil, solvents — more than 30 types of petroleum products in total. Its processing capacity is 7 million tons of oil per year. Explosions and fires were reported on the refinery’s territory.
The Kuibyshev refinery (often also called Novokuibyshev) is located in the city of Samara, about 1,000 km from the Ukrainian border. It is one of the largest refineries in the Volga region and part of the Russian oil company Rosneft.
The facility specializes in producing fuel for both civilian and military equipment, aviation kerosene, and specialized solvents. The strike on this target demonstrates Ukraine’s ability to operate deep inside Russian territory — something previously considered unlikely.
Ammunition depots and logistics facilities
Additionally, with the involvement of the Unmanned Systems Forces, Special Operations Forces, and the Security Service of Ukraine, in cooperation with other components of the Defense Forces, ammunition depots and several logistics facilities of the Russian aggressor were struck. The targets were located both inside Russia and in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
These included logistics hubs and warehouses supplying Russian troops with ammunition, explosives, and fuel. They are typically located near railway and road routes, enabling rapid resupply to the front line.
Such depots have traditionally been prime targets for Ukrainian strikes, as their destruction directly impacts the Russian occupiers’ ability to conduct combat operations.
The destruction of these facilities has undermined Russia’s ability to supply its troops with fuel and ammunition. The loss of refineries of this scale could significantly affect the stability of the Russian army’s logistics, especially in the conditions of a prolonged war.
