“Trump doesn’t understand anything about humanity. He has no compassion. I don’t know where he is or what he is, but he’s alien to this country, and he wants to harm it,” the actor said.
De Niro added that there’s “something deeply psychological” about the president, as he believes Trump “takes pleasure in hurting people and the country itself.”
The actor also supported the protest movement “No Kings,” which condemns authoritarian tendencies in American politics. In his Instagram post, he reminded that the first protest with this slogan took place 250 years ago, when the United States was fighting for democracy:
“We have two and a half centuries of democracy — not easy, sometimes messy, but necessary. And now we have a potential king who wants to take it away. King Donald I. To hell with that.”
In response, White House communications director Steven Cheung told The Hill that De Niro is “long irrelevant” and “makes himself look bad by making offensive statements and calls for violence.”
