According to Ukrainian intelligence, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin plans to present U.S. President Donald Trump with maps that supposedly prove that Ukraine is an “artificial state,” formed from the territories of other countries. These pseudo-historical arguments are intended to justify the Kremlin’s military aggression and Russia’s claims to Ukrainian lands.

The Center for Countering Disinformation emphasized that such speculations are a common tool of Russian propaganda, which contradicts international law, where the principles of territorial integrity and the prohibition of the use of force are clearly established.

The CCD reminded that most modern countries were once part of other states — just as today’s Russia was part of the Golden Horde, and its territories belonged to Germany, Sweden, Finland, and others. No historical or pseudo-historical arguments provide grounds for territorial claims.

The meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin is scheduled in Anchorage, Alaska, on August 15. The White House stated that the U.S. president is determined to “stop the killings,” while NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte called the event an important test on the path to ending the war.

Commenting on the meeting, the Kremlin once again voiced narratives about Russia’s “historical claims” to Alaska.
