Well-known journalist Vitaliy Portnikov stated on his YouTube channel that if elections in Ukraine are held under U.S. and Russian security guarantees, the current president, Volodymyr Zelensky, has a better chance of winning than in any other post-war election.

Portnikov doubts that real competitors to Zelensky would be able to run during martial law. “It is unlikely that Valerii Zaluzhnyi will leave his post as ambassador to the United Kingdom, Kyrylo Budanov will step down as head of the GUR, or Andriy Biletsky will leave the front. None of this will happen,” the journalist emphasized.
According to him, the campaign will likely turn into a conditional pre-election race where the main participants will be Zelensky’s spoilers. Given this, Portnikov believes that Zelensky may propose holding elections even during martial law.
