According to The Washington Post, the Pentagon is investigating nearly 300 employees of the U.S. Department of Defense, including military personnel, civilian staff, and contractors. This is related to online comments following the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

In the days immediately after Kirk’s death, the Department actively monitored employees who had previously criticized his movement or commented on the activist’s death. The investigation is ongoing, but no serious disciplinary actions have been taken so far.
Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth warned that consequences could affect those who spoke against Kirk, whom he called his friend.
As of September 30, the investigation had covered 128 service members, with most cases still under review. Twenty-six received administrative reprimands, three received non-judicial punishment, and another three are in the process of being discharged from the military.
Separately, 158 civilian employees and contractors were reviewed. Two were dismissed, while the status of the others remains unclear. An investigation into five former employees of the Department is also ongoing.
