More than 25% of Germans consider the possibility of an armed conflict with Russia within the next six months, according to an Ipsos survey.

20% of respondents believe a war is “rather likely,” while another 7% see it as “highly likely.” Meanwhile, 36% consider such an event “rather unlikely,” 25% — “highly unlikely,” and 12% were undecided.
Fear of war is stronger among young people and women:
- In the 18–39 age group, 35% consider a potential conflict with Russia possible;
- Among those aged 40–59 — 26%;
- Among those aged 60–75 — only 18%.
Women tend to assess the likelihood of war more pessimistically — 33% compared to 21% among men.
The greatest fear of conflict is seen among supporters of parties advocating reconciliation with Putin: the left-populist Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (41%) and the far-right Alternative for Germany (31%).
The survey was conducted online among 1,000 German citizens aged 18 to 75 between October 2 and 3, 2025.
