In December 2025, crude oil production in Russia fell the most in the past 18 months, Bloomberg reports.

According to the source, in December Russia produced an average of 9.326 million barrels per day — over 100,000 barrels less than in November and 250,000 barrels below the quota allowed under the OPEC+ agreement.
The decline is explained by a combination of US sanctions against Russian oil companies and a series of Ukrainian drone attacks on oil infrastructure. This marked the most significant drop since June 2024, when Russia was already obligated to reduce production under OPEC+.
Despite attempts to increase production at the end of the year, some plants were forced to cut or completely halt operations due to strikes by Ukraine, which also limited domestic oil consumption.
In addition, Ukraine carried out strikes for the first time on oil fields in the Caspian Sea and on tankers transporting Russian oil, forcing some vessels to take alternative routes and operate more cautiously in cooperation with Russia.
