A NATO representative emphasized that the Alliance maintains constant and close contact with the U.S. government, which informed its allies in advance about the decision to reduce its military presence in several European countries.
“Adjustments in the deployment of U.S. forces are not unusual. Even with these changes, the number of American troops in Europe remains higher than it was many years ago,” the NATO representative said.
The Alliance’s headquarters also stressed that the joint position of Washington and NATO remains unchanged — ensuring a strong deterrence and defense capability in Europe. U.S. President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly called on allies to increase their own defense spending, continues the policy of strengthening transatlantic security in line with new strategic priorities.
