Starting September 11, Latvia is temporarily closing its airspace along the eastern border with Russia and Belarus. The decision was made on the recommendation of the armed forces after a risk assessment, LSM reports.

The restriction will remain in place for at least a week and will cover altitudes up to 6,000 meters within a 50-kilometer zone from the country’s external border.
Defense Minister Andris Spruds explained that the decision is linked to Russia’s drone attack on Polish territory on September 10, which he called “a clear violation of NATO airspace.”
According to him, these measures will allow testing surveillance systems, simulating drone counteraction scenarios, and preparing additional mobile units.
