The proposal from Tehran includes opening the Strait of Hormuz and postponing negotiations on the nuclear program. In this way, Iran suggests first focusing on ending hostilities and lifting the blockade.
According to interlocutors, such an approach could speed up the achievement of agreements, but at the same time reduce U.S. influence on key issues, including enriched uranium and control over the nuclear program.
It is also reported that, through intermediaries, Iran signaled internal disagreements regarding possible concessions in the nuclear issue. Representatives of Pakistan, Egypt, Turkey, and Qatar were involved in the negotiations.
The White House confirmed receipt of the proposal, but stated that no decision has yet been made on its consideration. It emphasized that the U.S. does not negotiate through the media and is ready to consider only those deal options that meet national interests.
It is expected that U.S. President Donald Trump will hold a security meeting with his national security team to discuss further steps.
Earlier, the negotiation process between the sides stalled after the visit of Iran’s Foreign Minister to Pakistan, which brought no results, and a planned meeting with the American side in Islamabad did not take place.
