This is stated in a letter from Iran’s Ambassador to the UN, Amir Saeid Iravani, to UN Secretary-General António Guterres, cited by AFP.
Tehran said that Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan must compensate Iran for material and moral losses.
“The imposition of a naval blockade is a serious violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The illegal blockade is also a gross violation of the fundamental principles of international maritime law,” Iravani emphasized.
The diplomat also called on Middle Eastern countries hosting U.S. military bases to stop actions that, in Iran’s view, contradict international law.
In addition, he condemned the blockade of ports by the United States, calling it a gross violation of sovereignty.
Iran is paying particular attention to the strategic strait through which about 20% of global oil and gas supplies pass. It has become a key point of tension amid the confrontation between the U.S. and Iran.
“The illegal blockade poses a serious threat to international peace and security and increases the risk of escalation of the conflict in a region that is already unstable,” Iravani stressed.
