In Donald Trump’s administration, concerns are being raised over statements by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth regarding the operation in Iran, which are considered overly optimistic and potentially misleading to both the public and the president, The Washington Post reports.

According to sources, the rescue operation of pilots from an F-15E fighter jet shot down by Iran has cast doubt on Hegseth’s claims of complete U.S. air dominance. One official stated that the Pentagon chief is not providing the president with full information, causing him to repeat misleading assessments.
Earlier, Hegseth claimed that Iran effectively lacks air defense and is unable to counter U.S. aviation. At the same time, Trump reported that an American F-15 was shot down by a heat-seeking missile, calling it a “lucky shot.”
The Pentagon rejects the accusations, calling them “lies and propaganda.” White House spokesperson Anna Kelly also stated that the president has a full picture of the conflict and was prepared for any scenario.
According to insiders, Hegseth’s statements about the alleged significant weakening of Iran’s missile and drone programs are also disputed. In reality, according to sources, more than half of the launch systems remain intact, and Iran still possesses thousands of drones.
Despite this, at the end of March, Hegseth stated that the number of missile and drone launches by Iran had decreased to a minimum, calling it proof of the effectiveness of U.S. and Israeli strikes. Administration officials say such assessments do not reflect the real situation.
