According to Stubb, he sees no signs that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is ready for any concessions. He also suggested that Moscow’s current tactics may be aimed at prolonging the negotiation process.

“I do not see Putin changing his mind. I was optimistic for several months, but this turned out to be a classic Russian tactic of delay,” he said.

Commenting on security guarantees for Ukraine, Stubb emphasized that the most reliable deterrent force at present is the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

He noted that the Ukrainian army, numbering hundreds of thousands of well-trained soldiers, has unique combat experience in modern warfare that no NATO country possesses.

The President of Finland also stressed that Ukraine’s role in European security has increased, and now Europe largely depends on the resilience of Ukraine’s defense.
