In Europe, active preparations are underway to establish a Special Tribunal to prosecute Russia’s crime of aggression against Ukraine, said Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset, in an interview with “RBC-Ukraine.”

He recalled that on June 25 in Strasbourg, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a bilateral agreement with the Council of Europe to establish the Tribunal, which is of significant importance not only for Ukraine but for the entire European continent.
Following the signing of the agreement, extensive preparatory work began: a team has already been formed to create the legal framework, infrastructure, and staff selection, and funding for the first phase of the project has been planned.
At the same time, the launch of the Tribunal depends on the support of the Council of Europe member states. “We are ready to start even now, but this requires the participation and financial support of countries that need to ratify the agreement and join the initiative,” Berset emphasized.
He added that the exact timeline for the Tribunal’s work is currently difficult to predict, as the process is not entirely under the control of the Council of Europe.
