She stressed that the United States has no right to annex any part of the Kingdom of Denmark, and that Greenland is a member of NATO and covered by the Alliance’s security guarantees. Denmark already has a defense agreement with the U.S. and has increased investments in security in the Arctic region.
The prime minister’s appeal came after the wife of one of Trump’s advisers published a map of Greenland in the colors of the American flag with the word “SOON.” Trump reaffirmed his position, saying the island is needed by the United States from a national security perspective, as he believes Denmark cannot ensure its defense.
Denmark called on its ally to respect territorial integrity and the historical relations between the two countries.
