Despite President Volodymyr Zelensky’s statements about Ukraine’s technical readiness to join the European Union in 2027, discussions within the EU are currently only about potential partial membership, and no specific accession date exists. This was stated by Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze, head of the parliamentary committee on Ukraine’s EU integration.

She noted that much work still lies ahead and expressed frustration at the constant statements about possible accession in 2027, as the situation depends not only on the political will of the EU but also on Ukraine’s progress in implementing necessary reforms.
Klympush-Tsintsadze emphasized that the current discussions are more about “anchoring” Ukraine in future membership and discussing partial status, rather than full membership with a defined completion date. According to her, there is still significant slowdowns in reforms in Ukraine that should be advancing to accelerate integration.
