China responded to criticism from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky regarding Beijing’s passivity in the peace process. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian emphasized that China maintains communication with both Ukraine and Russia.

“From the very beginning of the ‘Ukrainian crisis,’ China has maintained communication with the relevant parties, including Ukraine and Russia. We are working toward a ceasefire and facilitating peace negotiations, and our efforts are evident to the international community,” Lin stated.
He also added that Beijing will continue to play a “constructive role” and supports any initiatives aimed at achieving peace, although he did not provide specific examples of China’s effective involvement in Ukraine.
