According to Reuters, Beijing has deployed more than 100 DF-31 intercontinental ballistic missiles in new silo launchers and is not showing any intention to engage in arms control negotiations. As of 2024, China’s nuclear arsenal amounted to about 600 warheads, and by 2030 Beijing plans to increase their number to more than 1,000.

A Pentagon report emphasizes that China is modernizing and expanding its nuclear weapons stockpiles faster than any other country and is not ready for comprehensive arms limitation talks.
Analysts pay particular attention to Taiwan. According to Pentagon assessments, China plans to be ready for war with the island and a possible seizure by the end of 2027. One scenario предусматриes shelling the island from a distance of 1,500–2,000 nautical miles, which would complicate the US presence in the Asia-Pacific region.
China’s embassy in Washington rejected the accusations, stating that the PRC adheres to a defensive nuclear strategy, maintains its forces at the minimum level necessary for national security, and observes a moratorium on nuclear tests.
