👩🏫 Despite teachers’ salaries being among the lowest in the country, causing a shortage of young specialists, salary increases are not currently being considered. The state budget cannot handle such expenses amid the full-scale war.

📊 This was stated by Serhiy Babak (“Servant of the People”), head of the Verkhovna Rada committee on education, science, and innovations, reports Ukrinform. He emphasized a critical shortage of teachers in natural sciences—physics, chemistry, biology—in schools.
💬 “The most acute issue is that young teachers hardly come. This is a real problem. And its solution is very simple — salary,” Babak explained.
📜 By law, a teacher’s minimum salary should be at least three times the minimum wage, about 24,000 UAH in 2025 (the minimum wage is 8,000 UAH). However, this norm is postponed yearly due to budget constraints, especially during the war.
🚫 Because of low salaries, young specialists lose motivation to work in schools. “If we want to see teachers young, motivated, and active, we must provide decent pay for their work,” the MP concluded.
💵 Currently, teachers receive monthly bonuses depending on workload. From January 1 to September 1, the bonus is at least 1,300 UAH (about 1,000 UAH net), and from September 1 — from 2,600 UAH (2,000 UAH net).
📅 Education Minister Oksen Lisovyi said that in 2026 bonuses may increase by 1,000 UAH in January and another 2,000 UAH in September, but this requires funding of 40 billion UAH.
