Former Kherson mayor Volodymyr Mykolayenko, who spent over three years in Russian captivity, stated that the rapid advance of Russian troops through the region to Kherson was made possible due to betrayal.

“I am convinced that it was betrayal. To reach Kherson so quickly, and without blowing up the Antonivskyi Bridge — that is a big question for me,” he emphasized.
Mykolayenko recalled that three weeks before the full-scale invasion, exercises were conducted under the leadership of the SBU with the participation of President Volodymyr Zelensky, where it was reported that the bridges were mined. However, in practice, according to him, the situation turned out to be completely different. “They just didn’t roll out a red carpet for these tanks to cross,” added the former mayor.
