Ukrainian banks are increasingly turning to courts over clients’ debts. The number of lawsuits filed by financial institutions in 2025 has reached a historic record, exceeding 100,000.

This is reported by Opendatabot. Predictably, the largest banks are suing most frequently.

According to the State Judicial Administration of Ukraine, since the beginning of 2025, Ukrainian banks have filed 100,434 lawsuits against debtors — nearly 1.5 times more than during the same period last year. Overall, since 2019, banks have filed 511,865 lawsuits.

Which banks sue debtors

Over the year, the top five largest suing banks have not changed. However, overall, they have become more active in “collecting” debts from clients in court. More than 70% of all lawsuits this year are accounted for by:

  • Monobank – 28.2 thousand (in 2024 – 20.9 thousand);
  • A-Bank – 22.2 thousand (up from 13.7 thousand, i.e., 1.6 times);
  • PrivatBank – 20.3 thousand (up from 11.3 thousand, i.e., 1.8 times);
  • PUMB – 9.2 thousand (up from 7.2 thousand);
  • Sense Bank – 6.8 thousand (up from 4.2 thousand, i.e., 1.6 times).

These same companies remain the leaders in lawsuits against debtors over the past seven years: PrivatBank — 191,353 lawsuits, Universal Bank – 115,702, A-Bank – 60,421, Sense Bank – 25,283, and PUMB – 21,476.

Які банки найчастіше судяться з клієнтами

The number of lawsuits from Tascombank has increased the most — by 3.5 times. Meanwhile, some financial institutions have significantly reduced their court filings:

  • Unex Bank – 4 times less
  • Credit Agricole – 2 times less
  • Ukrgasbank – 2 times less

It is worth noting that the ranking of the most “litigious” banks has been updated this year. New players entered the top list — Radabank and Bank Alliance, while Accordbank and Unex Bank dropped out of the top twenty leaders.

How much debt has already been collected in Ukraine

Earlier, it was reported that in 2025, Ukraine recovered 1.1 million debts totaling 15.11 billion UAH. At the same time, about 400,000 debt cases were closed due to the impossibility of collecting the money.

However, even opening enforcement proceedings does not guarantee that the debt will be fully recovered. According to statistics, the actual amounts collected year by year have decreased:

  • In 2021 – 2.6 kopecks per hryvnia of debt;
  • 2022 – 1.6 kopecks per hryvnia;
  • 2023 – 3 kopecks per hryvnia of debt;
  • 2025 – less than 1 kopeck.
