In August 2025, Ukrainian forces successfully repelled Russia’s offensive actions and regained control over a number of territories, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports, citing Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi.

In the Lyman, Dobropillia, Pokrovsk, Novopavlivka, and other directions, the Defense Forces employed active defense and counterattack tactics, protected cities from missile and drone strikes, and also struck enemy rear targets on Russian territory. According to Syrskyi, Ukrainian forces regained control over 58 sq. km and liberated several settlements, destroyed 60 targets in Russia using Deep Strike means, and drones struck over 67,000 enemy objects during the month.

Russian occupiers’ losses in August amounted to 28,790 personnel, and since the beginning of 2025 — 297,350 personnel. Despite the enemy’s numerical superiority in certain directions, plans for breakthroughs and encirclements were not realized. The Armed Forces of Ukraine are also continuing the transition to a corps-level command system, which enhances command and troop management efficiency.
