Due to the cold weather, electricity consumption in Ukraine has significantly increased, leading to overloading of the power grid. If large appliances are turned on simultaneously during peak hours, there is a risk of returning to scheduled power outages for residential consumers.

“Ukrenergo” recommends several steps to avoid outages:
- Try not to use several large appliances at the same time during the most challenging hours (7:00–11:00 and 15:00–21:00).
- If possible, shift the use of powerful equipment to nighttime (after 21:00).
- Unplug unnecessary devices, even if they are in standby mode.
- Boil only the necessary amount of water in the electric kettle.
- Replace incandescent bulbs with energy-saving ones and pay attention to the energy efficiency class of appliances.
- Turn off unnecessary lighting in rooms that are not in use.
Vladimir Omelychenko, Director of Energy Programs at the “Razumkov Centre,” noted that during severe frosts and attacks on the energy system, planned outages may return. However, Ukraine can avoid outages if it ensures sufficient import of electricity and natural gas, and if energy resources are used responsibly.
