🔴 Apple’s fine: The Commission found that Apple violated the requirements by forcing users and developers to exclusively use the App Store to purchase apps. According to the DMA, developers must be able to freely inform users about alternative methods for installing apps. Apple is required to remove restrictions preventing this and not repeat such behavior.
🟠 Meta’s fine: The company introduced a “Consent or Pay” model, forcing users to consent to the processing of their personal data for advertising or pay for an ad-free subscription. The European Commission found that this model violated DMA rules as it does not provide users with enough choice and does not guarantee freedom in consenting to the processing of personal data.
🚫 The Commission also decided that the online service Facebook Marketplace no longer falls under the DMA due to a smaller number of business users than required by the regulations.
🔍 These are the first fines imposed under the DMA, highlighting the importance of adhering to new digital market standards in the EU.
