On February 24, EU leaders will take part in an official memorial ceremony and visit an energy infrastructure facility damaged by Russian missile strikes. In addition, meetings with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and participation in the “Coalition of the Willing” meeting are planned, demonstrating support for Ukraine by 35 member countries in achieving lasting peace and security in Europe.
Since 2022, the EU has provided Ukraine with €194.9 billion in assistance, of which €70 billion has been allocated for military needs. The proposed €90 billion loan is intended to ensure financial support for the country in 2026–2027. Ukraine’s defense support is implemented through the European Commission’s flagship SAFE instrument totaling €150 billion, as well as through joint projects of 19 member states.
Additionally, Ukraine has received nearly €3 billion for energy security, over €900 million for emergency gas procurement, and electricity export capacity from the EU to Ukraine is currently at its maximum. Overall aid includes more than 157,000 tons of cargo, including 1,000 generators in the last month alone.
Along with von der Leyen, EU Commissioner for Energy and Housing Dan Jørgensen will arrive in Kyiv. Next week, the Ukrainian capital will be visited by EU Commissioner for Defense and Space Andrius Kubilius and EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos.
