At the beginning of the week, Trump boasted that he would quickly achieve peace, but later stated that Ukraine would not be able to win without launching an active offensive against Russia. On social media, he compared the situation to a team that is allowed only to defend but forbidden to attack.

His attempts to organize meetings with Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Vladimir Putin failed. The Kremlin rejected the idea of peacekeeping forces in Ukraine.

Experts believe that Trump’s optimism is fading, and his positions are increasingly appearing contradictory. He has not provided Ukraine with long-range missiles and has limited himself to an arms sales scheme with Europe, so that Europeans could supply Ukraine.

Analysts emphasize: Putin is counting on a protracted war and buying time, while Trump seeks a quick end. The differences in their negotiation styles make a diplomatic breakthrough unlikely.

Meanwhile, Ukraine is developing its own long-range missiles and actively expanding drone production. Volodymyr Zelenskyy has already announced a new cruise missile and the launch of a large-scale program in 2026.

Former U.S. officials are skeptical about the chances of an agreement: Kurt Volker directly stated that Putin “will never agree” to a genuine peace deal.
