“We would still like to meet with the Russians. I had a good conversation with Foreign Minister Lavrov, and we will continue to monitor developments. The United States is always interested in engagement if there is a chance to achieve peace,” Rubio said.
He also emphasized that the imposition of sanctions was a long-standing promise by President Donald Trump, who had repeatedly declared his readiness to act in the absence of progress in peace talks.
“The President has been saying for several months that if there is no movement toward a peace agreement, he will be forced to take action. Today, he did just that,” the Secretary of State stressed.
