The UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper stated that the country received an invitation to join the newly established Peace Council but will not be among the signatories at the ceremony in Davos.

Cooper described the council as a “legal agreement that raises much broader issues” than its original purpose — ending the war in Gaza. According to her, the council’s charter does not mention Palestinian territory and is likely intended to replace some functions of the UN.
The minister noted that the UK supports Trump’s 20-point plan to end the conflict in Gaza but is concerned about the participation of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Cooper emphasized that Putin is not showing a willingness for peace in Ukraine and needs to be pressured.
Cooper’s position aligns with the views of other British ministers, who have also expressed concern over Putin’s potential involvement in the council amid Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine.
