The United Kingdom has signed a £118 million ($159 million) contract with the European manufacturer MBDA to supply six Land Ceptor systems over three years, Bloomberg reports.

The new systems will become part of the British Sky Sabre air defense and are capable of simultaneously directing 24 missiles to intercept targets — from fighter jets and drones to cruise missiles.

The contract was signed amid talks among European and U.S. allies regarding security guarantees for Ukraine after a possible peace agreement with Russia. Air defense has been identified as a key element of the so-called “coalition of the willing,” led by London and Paris.

Despite U.S. President Donald Trump’s statement that he has no plans to deploy troops in Ukraine, he did not rule out the possibility of deploying American air defense systems to protect against long-range ballistic missiles.

“Doubling our Sky Sabre capabilities will strengthen the United Kingdom’s air defense, protect forces abroad, and serve as a deterrent to adversaries,” emphasized Armed Forces Minister Luke Pollard.
