According to the agency, the threshold was reached after Republican Representative from California Kevin Kiley changed his political status and became independent, which allowed the process of advancing the initiative to move forward.
Despite broad bipartisan support for Ukraine in Congress since the start of the war, some Republicans aligned with Donald Trump have recently taken a more cautious stance on further aid to Kyiv.
According to Reuters, U.S. military and financial support for Ukraine has recently slowed, while the negotiation process to end the war remains stalled.
The document under discussion includes three key components:
— support for Ukraine and NATO, as well as the creation of a coordinator position for Ukraine’s reconstruction;
— financial assistance to Ukraine of about $1 billion and credit mechanisms of up to $8 billion;
— new sanctions against Russia, particularly targeting the financial sector.
Some lawmakers are calling for the bill to be brought to a vote as soon as possible and for its swift approval in the Senate.
At the same time, the further fate of the initiative remains uncertain, particularly due to expected political decisions by the U.S. presidential administration regarding sanctions policy.
