The European Union, in the event of a fuel crisis, will consider purchasing Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) only as a last resort, giving preference to alternative supply sources. This opinion was expressed by the former Polish ambassador to the EU (1996–2001), Jan Truszczyński, on Slawa.TV on Espreso.

The diplomat noted that if global energy prices continue to rise, competition in the international gas market will increase. LNG production and export in the Gulf states are currently limited, and recovery could take a long time, which will affect the market.
Truszczyński emphasized that Europe will be forced to save gas and intensify competition for supplies from the USA, trying to avoid resuming purchases from Russia.
“Europe will use the available gas sparingly, and competition for LNG from the USA will increase. Ideas from some politicians about purchasing Russian LNG are possible, but this is the last thing the EU would resort to during a fuel crisis. Europe will seek all other ways to ensure a sufficient amount of gas this year,” the diplomat concluded.
