The European Union should not place too much reliance on the United States regarding support for Ukraine and the peace process. This was stated by Member of the European Parliament Urmas Paet in an interview with ERR.

According to him, Russia is taking advantage of tensions in relations between Europe and the United States, which creates additional risks for Ukraine.
Paet noted that the attention of the United States and President Donald Trump is currently largely focused on the Middle East and Iran. He also stated that signals from Washington suggest the justification for reducing military aid to Ukraine.
The MEP emphasized that part of the American weapons supplied to Ukraine in recent times is effectively financed by European countries, which purchase them.
At the same time, he expressed concern that due to the active use of weapons in conflicts on other fronts, shortages in supplies for Ukraine could arise.
In Paet’s view, Europe should strengthen its own defense support for Kyiv and not rely excessively on the United States, despite its important role as an ally.
