Member of the European Parliament and former President of the Constitutional Court of Lithuania, Dainius Žalimas, stated that if Viktor Orbán wins the elections, the European Union will be able to bypass potential blockages and review decision-making mechanisms.

According to him, the current consensus rule means that decisions cannot be made without unanimity, so changes in voting and decision-making procedures are necessary for the EU to work more effectively.
Žalimas also emphasized that EU expansion, including the accession of Ukraine and other countries, opens up opportunities to reform voting rules, review treaties, and reduce the influence of individual states on key decisions, including sanctions and the opening of negotiation clusters.
“If Orbán remains in power, the EU will find ways to bypass blockages or apply a different decision-making mechanism,” he added.
