European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that the EU will soon introduce a new, 19th package of sanctions against Russia. She emphasized that the Kremlin continues to terrorize Ukraine by killing civilians, and therefore the European Union will maintain maximum pressure on the aggressor.

In addition, the EU is promoting the idea of using frozen Russian assets for Ukraine’s defense and reconstruction. Von der Leyen called Ukraine “a neighbor, a partner, a friend, and a future member” of the European Union.
At the same time, the new sanctions package will not affect the import of Russian oil and gas. The main targets will be the shadow fleet and companies that help the Kremlin bypass previous restrictions. The sanctions are expected to be presented by the end of September.
Diplomats note that the greatest pressure on Moscow will come from U.S. secondary sanctions against companies and countries doing business with Russia. Recently, Vladimir Putin agreed to direct negotiations with Donald Trump after the U.S. imposed high tariffs on India for purchasing cheap Russian oil.
