📌 Європейський суд з прав людини (ЄСПЛ) ухвалив два історичні рішення проти росії, визнавши її відповідальною за масові ⚖️ Human rights violations during russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine and responsibility for the downing of flight MH17 in 2014.

🔴 This is the first time an international court has officially found russia guilty of violations since 2022, and the first time the kremlin has been held accountable for the downing of a civilian airliner that killed 298 people.
📣 The Ministry of Justice of Ukraine called the verdict “historic” and emphasized that the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) clearly documented mass and systemic human rights violations ongoing since 2014.
🛬 MH17 disaster:
On July 17, 2014, russian military forces shot down Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 over Donbas with a Buk missile system brought from russia.
The plane was flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur. All 298 people on board were killed.
Russian militants, including Igor Girkin, initially boasted about shooting down a “Ukrainian aircraft,” but later deleted the messages.
🔍 Investigation:
A Joint Investigation Team (JIT) involving Ukraine, the Netherlands, Australia, Belgium, and Malaysia established that the Buk missile system belonged to the 53rd Anti-Aircraft Missile Brigade of the russian armed forces.
In 2022, a court in The Hague found Girkin, Dubinsky, and Kharchenko guilty of murdering the passengers and sentenced them in absentia to life imprisonment.
In 2023, the Dutch prosecutor’s office stated that the delivery of the Buk system may have been personally approved by putin.
📢 On the ninth anniversary of the tragedy, the EU once again called on moscow to accept responsibility and cooperate with international investigations.
🕊️ The ECHR’s decision is a clear signal that international law is working and that russia will not escape punishment for crimes against humanity and the civilian population.
