Ukrainian Defense Forces are increasing the intensity of medium-range strikes, significantly complicating Russian logistics across the entire theater of operations — from the temporarily occupied Luhansk region to Crimea.

This undermines Russia’s ability to rapidly transfer personnel to the front line, supply and maintain positions, and use infiltration tactics, according to a report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

On May 31, Ukraine’s 3rd Army Corps reported that the Armed Forces of Ukraine, using drones, established fire control over Luhansk, Starobilsk, Alchevsk, Brianka, and Kadiivka. All these cities are located 50–90 km from the front line. This is part of a broader campaign of strikes on Russian ground lines of communication in the Luhansk region aimed at disrupting the enemy’s rear logistics operations.

It is also reported that Ukrainian forces regularly strike armored vehicle and ammunition depots in the area. Separately, a strike was recorded near the Izvaryne checkpoint on the international border — more than 205 km from the positions of Ukrainian UAV operators.

“Over the past months, Ukrainian forces have significantly intensified their medium-range strike campaign, which has caused a chain reaction on the battlefield and slowed Russian advances. These attacks have created serious logistical problems for Russian forces in southern Ukraine and have begun to affect supply lines in the occupied Luhansk region,” the ISW report states.

In particular, geolocated video footage confirms strikes on Russian military equipment along the Debaltseve–Luhansk, Alchevsk–Kadiivka, Kostiantynivka–Donetsk, and M14 Mariupol–Berdiansk–Melitopol–Henichesk routes in the occupied Luhansk and Donetsk regions.
