The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary, Péter Szijjártó, confirmed that he regularly communicates with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, during private meetings of EU foreign ministers. He stated this at an election campaign rally in Kecskemét.

Szijjártó noted that such conversations with partners outside the bloc are “the essence of diplomacy.” He also added that he communicates not only with Lavrov but also with American, Turkish, Israeli, Serbian, and other colleagues before and after EU Council meetings.
The Hungarian Foreign Minister assured that state secrets are not discussed at EU ministerial meetings, and he considers any security protocols to be “nonsense.”
