🧨 Sullivan: Pentagon’s explanation is part of Trump’s “cynical game” concerning Ukraine

🧨 Салліван: Пояснення Пентагону — частина “цинічної гри” Трампа щодо України

📝 Former National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan criticized the Pentagon’s arguments for suspending military aid to Ukraine, calling them a cover and part of Donald Trump’s political “cynical game.” He expressed his position in a column for The New York Times.

💵 Sullivan emphasized that the halt does not concern the emergency Presidential Drawdown Authority program, which pulls weapons directly from stockpiles, but rather affects the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) — a program of long-term contracts with American manufacturers.

📊 According to CSIS analysts, around $10 billion remains unused under USAI, funds intended for deliveries through 2028. Sullivan highlighted that these are not stockpile transfers but standard military contracts, just like those used for exports to other countries.

⚠️ He also noted that supplies under the presidential program happen only with Joe Biden’s approval, while the U.S. Army is currently focused on producing next-generation ammunition for itself.

🗣️ “The administration may not want to say it out loud, but the reality is that the President appears to be winding down military aid to Ukraine,” Sullivan concluded.
