The main topic of the talks was Russia’s war against Ukraine. Starmer emphasized the importance of achieving a just and lasting peace and also discussed stability in the Indo-Pacific region, as well as cooperation on climate and energy issues, including moving away from dependence on fossil fuels.
Despite calls from Western countries, India continues to purchase Russian energy resources, effectively supporting the financing of Kremlin military actions. Modi stated that he seeks an end to the war through “dialogue and diplomacy.”
This is Starmer’s first visit to India, accompanied by the largest British delegation in history: over 100 CEOs, entrepreneurs, university rectors, and cultural figures.
