“Bucha has become a symbol of the brutality of Russia’s war. Many of the civilians who were killed were shot at close range, and some had their hands tied behind their backs. Four years after these mass killings, we remember the victims. What happened here cannot be denied,” Kallas said.

The head of European diplomacy emphasized that the EU aims to ensure these crimes do not go unpunished, including through support for the Special Tribunal on Aggression Crimes. “Russia must be held accountable for what it has done to Ukraine,” she concluded.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha welcomed the European guests in Kyiv: “Welcome to Kyiv, dear European friends, Kaja Kallas and fellow ministers of EU member states! Today we mark the tragic anniversary of the Bucha massacre. Such a strong European presence shows that justice for these and other Russian atrocities is inevitable.”

According to him, the visit of European leaders is “a sign of true courage and solidarity with Ukraine” and will help advance efforts toward achieving justice.
