On the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Rubio commented on the prospects for peace negotiations and the position of President Donald Trump’s administration. He emphasized that the U.S. continues to impose sanctions on Russia and provide military assistance to Ukraine, while neither supporting Russia nor restricting Kyiv.

According to Rubio, it was the U.S. that managed to bring Russian and Ukrainian negotiators to the same table, whereas other international organizations, including the UN and the EU, are unable to play such a role because Russia refuses to negotiate with them.

The Secretary of State stressed that the war will end through negotiations, not military means. At the same time, he acknowledged that President Trump’s patience is not unlimited, but he declined to predict when the White House might change its strategy.

Rubio noted that Trump is deeply frustrated by the conflict’s duration, calling it “pointless and bloody.” Thousands of soldiers die on the front each week, and the destruction in Ukraine is increasing, which will have consequences for several generations.

The Secretary of State also emphasized that thanks to U.S. support, Ukraine has been able to continue its defense, receiving military aid, intelligence, and sanctions against Russia. He added that although negotiations are progressing, a number of key issues remain very difficult, and achieving a final agreement will require significant effort.
