Romania supports increasing sanctions pressure on Russia following new mass strikes on Ukraine and is introducing stricter mechanisms for punishing violations of the sanctions regime. This was stated by Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Țoiu ahead of the EU General Affairs Council meeting in Brussels.

She emphasized that Bucharest has a clear and consistent position regarding Russia’s actions and supports further tightening pressure on Moscow.
According to Țoiu, Romania is working on the next EU sanctions package and is simultaneously strengthening domestic legislation on liability for sanctions violations.
She also announced work on creating a security hub in the Black Sea that would help track potential routes of the so-called “shadow fleet.”
Romania, together with Bulgaria and Turkey, is also participating in Black Sea demining efforts, which, according to her, include Ukraine as well.
She stressed that Black Sea security remains a key regional priority, particularly due to the threat of naval mines and Russia’s military activity.
