Senator Richard Blumenthal emphasized that American facilities—offices, manufacturing plants, and silos—have repeatedly come under attacks by Russian drones and missiles. According to him, nearly half of the approximately 600 large American companies in Ukraine have suffered direct attacks.
Democratic senators Blumenthal, Chris Coons, Sheldon Whitehouse, and Senate Foreign Relations Committee member Jeanne Shaheen visited Ukraine after participating in the Munich Security Conference and stressed the need to provide Kyiv with reliable security guarantees in any potential peace agreement with Russia.
Chris Coons clarified that bipartisan support in the U.S. Congress ensures that any agreement will not be weak or nominal. The guarantees should include intelligence sharing, access to modern American weaponry, long-term funding, training, and equipping of Ukrainian forces.
Senator Jeanne Shaheen noted that American companies are a deliberate target of Putin. For example, in Odesa, 79% of American firms experienced damage.
In addition, the senators emphasized the need to accelerate arms production in the U.S. and Europe and called for granting Ukraine licenses to develop its own air defense systems, including interceptors for the Patriot systems.
