Pope Leo XIV stated that the Vatican’s mediating role in resolving the war between Ukraine and Russia seems unlikely. He said this in an interview with Crux.

“I would distinguish between the voice of the Holy See in advocating for peace and the role of a mediator, which, in my view, is very different and not as realistic as the first,” the pontiff explained.
According to him, both he personally, and Christians, and people of good will have always emphasized that peace is the only answer to war.
The Pope also stressed that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the Holy See has been making efforts to maintain a neutral position.
