Norway has officially confirmed its intention to join the formation of a new security system in Europe, based on French nuclear capabilities. Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide told parliament that Norway is ready to begin consultations with Paris as part of a broader “deterrence strategy” due to Russia’s war against Ukraine and the re-election of Donald Trump.

Norway emphasizes that its territory will remain nuclear-free in peacetime, and cooperation with France includes partnership agreements, joint exercises, and the potential temporary deployment of French Rafale fighter jets.
