“Ukraine’s anti-corruption institutions are crucial to its reforms. Limiting their operations would be a serious step backward,” Veldkamp stressed.
The minister emphasized that ensuring the independence of NABU (National Anti-Corruption Bureau) and SAPO (Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office), as well as continued progress in the rule of law, remain key conditions for Ukraine’s EU integration process.
Earlier, the Verkhovna Rada passed Law No. 12414, which allows NABU and SAPO to be subordinated to the Prosecutor General’s Office, despite warnings from anti-corruption organizations that this undermines their independence.
