Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni stated that the European Union is studying the possibility of using frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine. At the same time, she emphasized that any decisions must be made within the framework of international law.

“We are not the only ones who believe that when it comes to the use of frozen assets, it is essential to respect international rules and the principle of legality,” Meloni noted.
The head of government stressed that Italy advocates maintaining the financial and monetary stability of EU and eurozone economies, as well as ensuring the sustainability of any potential measures related to transferring funds to Ukraine.
Earlier, it was reported that EU leaders plan to task the European Commission with developing a concrete proposal on the use of Russia’s assets, while Belgium has already effectively given a political “green light” to launch this process.
