Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, reported that Russia has involved 1,780 Africans from 36 countries in the war against Ukraine. Among them are 272 Ghanaian citizens, 55 of whom have died, and 2 are still in captivity.

According to the minister, this information is based on intelligence from the Ukrainian authorities. He noted that criminal human trafficking networks lure Africans to participate in the conflict, and the government of Ghana cannot remain indifferent to this situation.

Ablakwa emphasized that these numbers represent human lives and the hopes of many families in Ghana. Therefore, the government will launch an intensive educational campaign to protect youth from being drawn into the war.

The minister also added that President John Mahama’s administration is tracking and dismantling illegal recruitment schemes for the war. “This is not our war, and we cannot allow our youth to become a human shield for others,” he stressed.
