The European Union remains open to negotiations with Russia on ending the war in Ukraine, but will not allow any uncoordinated or parallel channels of communication with the Kremlin. This was stated by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Reuters reports.

According to Merz, the EU has always been ready for diplomatic dialogue with Russia. At present, in particular, coordinated talks are ongoing in Abu Dhabi, and the European side is interested in making them as effective as possible.
At the same time, the German chancellor emphasized that Europe will act exclusively within agreed formats and will not open any “parallel channels of communication” with the Russian Federation. This, he said, is a principled position of the EU regarding the war against Ukraine.
