🇪🇺 German Chancellor Acknowledges Problems with Hungary Blocking €90 Billion for Ukraine

🇩🇪 Мерц заперечив зв’язок між сваркою з Трампом та виведенням військ США з Німеччини

The issue of providing Ukraine with a €90 billion EU loan, which is being blocked by Hungary, will be difficult to resolve in the near future. This was stated by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz after the EU summit on March 19.

According to him, despite Kyiv’s growing need for financial support amid the war with Russia, EU countries have failed to persuade Hungary to change its position. “I hope we will resolve this problem in the medium term, but it is extremely difficult,” he noted.

Merz also did not outline alternative options for assisting Ukraine if the blockage continues. He recalled that he had previously proposed using frozen Russian assets, but this option raised serious doubts.

According to him, the decision to provide Ukraine with a two-year loan is optimal, but it requires unanimous support from all 27 EU member states. The Chancellor emphasized that a situation where one state blocks joint decisions is a new challenge for the European Union.
